The zebra is best known and identified because of it’s black and white stripes. I am very fascinated by this pattern as it is unique in every zebra and makes each animal one of his kind. The zebra has no influence on the pattern of his fur, it is comparable to the human fingerprint. A baby zebra recognizes it’s mother by her unique pattern, while still small it remembers the “bar code” of her legs and her body. This is called imprinting. The mother will try to keep other zebras away for several days, so the baby has time to be “imprinted”. Zebras are extremely loyal to their immediate family and also to the bigger herd. To ward off predators the zebras stand close together. Because of the pattern a predator can not make out how big one zebra is, or where one zebra ends and the other starts. Being in a close community provides safety, and this safety is provided by standing close together. Zebras are strong and ready to fight if they are attacked. There is so much we can draw from the wisdom in creation.
- Some things in our life are a given, parts of our personality and also our body. To embrace and appreciate our “pattern” means to have peace, a strong base for our identity.
- We have been impressed with our “firsts” , this is what is familiar to us and the history that is a part of us.
- To stay safe we need to be close to those who love us and include us in their circle.
- We should only face our enemies in deep connection with those who have our back.
- In the event of an attack we don’t hide but confront.
